Needs Assessment

The INTERSMARTS Network conducted a comprehensive applied research initiative to identify the main challenges, contextual factors, and intervention opportunities related to the adoption of smart and innovative solutions for sustainable tourism in the Black Sea Basin in line with blue growth objectives.

As a result of this collaborative effort, four thematic Needs Assessment Reports were developed:

Task Force “Sustainable Infrastructure and Resource Management”

The report explores the pressures of excessive development on coastal and rural areas, analysing land use, infrastructure strain, and environmental impacts.

Task Force “Anti-Pollution and Waste Management”

The report focuses on the sources and consequences of pollution and poor waste handling, this report identifies critical needs and proposes strategic mitigation approaches.

Task Force “Seasonality Solutions”

The report considers the socioeconomic and environmental implications of seasonal tourism, this report outlines smart strategies for diversification and year-round activity.

Task Force “Technology Transfer and Innovations”

The report highlights the challenges related to adopting new technologies and innovations in the tourism sector and suggests mechanisms for increasing uptake and impact.
